The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) quickly migrated their archival holdings to the Eloquent Archives software, a WebGENCAT application, for easy and timely access by their members across the continent.
Vancouver, BC – March 26, 2008 - The archival holdings of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) include over 12,000 linear feet of records in various forms: paper, microform, film, video, photographs, slides, and artifacts. They also include a reference library collection of more than 3,000 titles. With the new Eloquent Archives software they create finding aids for processed collections, enter accession records and basic inventories for collections not processed, and catalog the titles in their library reference collection. In addition, they use Eloquent to track reference requests and log the transaction records for statistical and reporting purposes.
The ELCA was using an older version of software that required the periodic publishing of data to a second system for access over the Internet. As with all published data on the Internet, it is immediately out of date. Any additions or corrections must wait for the next publication. “We are extremely satisfied with the final results of the new system,” stated Cathy Lundeen, Chief Archivist for ELCA. “It is a major improvement over the type of system we had been using. What I love about it is that the changes I make to in the staff catalog appear immediately for the public.”
The project was on time and under budget. It was all completed electronically, and required no costly on-site visits. “I am very pleased with the procedures and technology my technical staff has put in place to manage these projects in a timely manner,” bragged Merv Richter, President of Eloquent Systems. “Communication lines are maintained and no time is wasted.” For the customer'’s view of the remote process, read her Project Satisfaction Report.
The church has a launch page on their website directing their patrons to the public access search window. The software permits them to display only selected records and only the specified metadata fields. There is no problem with security, so feel free to do a few searches.
