Welcome to AVID's Electronic Archival Guide
This electronic database includes extensive records regarding AVID's founding and 28-year history. The electronic catalog contains descriptive information and some digital versions of archival materials maintained at the AVID Center in San Diego, California.

What You Will Find
This archive contains a variety of AVID information, including: history, conferences, Institutes, curriculum, biographies, publications, and more. A complete list of contents can be found in the Archive structure. The descriptions and materials will enable you to search and identify potential items of interest.

The materials are relevant for, among others, those researching how to establish a major not-for-profit organization from the ground up; educational research on the student achievement gap and efficacious approaches for overcoming the gap; and those interested in researching the sustainability of such a movement. The materials are also appropriate for those implementing or planning to implement the AVID program.

Searching
Materials are maintained in collections, which are groups of materials that are further sub-divided into series, folders and/or items. All materials are described in a hierarchical manner. This means there can be multiple records for individual collections.

The expandable table of contents to the left serves as a directory or site map of how the archive is arranged.

The best way to search contents is though keywords. This allows you to search for materials related to specific topics based on one or more words. You also have the option of searching by title or access point. To conduct a search, go to the archives search page.

More Information
Archiving 28+ years of history is an arduous and time-consuming process. This database is not a complete inventory of AVID Center holdings, but is an ongoing project that will be updated continuously to provide both historical and current material.

Please revisit us from time to time to see what new materials have been added.

Those wishing to access the holdings are welcome to make an appointment for use of the AVID Archive Library by calling 858-623-2843.
