RG28-001. Organization and Field Services Department. AFL Federal Local Unions (FLUs); AFL-CIO Directly Affiliated Local Unions (DALUs), Charter Records, 1924-1981.
This collection contains an annotated listing of charter grants for AFL federal local unions (FLUs) and AFL-CIO directly affiliated local unions (DALUs), an index, and charter record forms for DALUs.

RG28-002. Organizing Department. Records, 1955-1975.
This collection consists of records produced and collected by the AFL-CIO Department of Organization and Field Services and its regional offices. The great bulk of this collection, consisting of activity, service, and monthly reports, documents the activities of AFL-CIO organizers throughout the country. Additionally, the monthly reports written by regional directors present general analyses of affiliated union organizing and service activities in particular regions.

RG28-003. Organization and Field Services Department. International and National Union Charter Files, 1886-1989.
This collection is comprised of the records of the AFL and AFL-CIO regarding the affiliation of national and international unions with the national body. The files most frequently show the original application for affiliation and correspondence regarding changes in that affiliation over the years. Many contain a photostat of the original or revised charter.

RG28-004. Organizing Department. CIO Organizing Committee Papers, 1946-1958.
This collection consists of CIO Organizing Committee campaigns in four southern states: North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The collection was filmed by the Microfilming Corporation of America.

RG28-005. Department of Organization and Field Services. State Charter Records, 1890-1985.
This collection consists of copies of AFL, CIO, and AFL-CIO state charters and related correspondence gathered or generated by the Department of Organization and Field Services. The charters empower state central bodies "composed of and supported by the different local unions in the particular state, to function to advance the state-wide interest of labor and represent labor on state legislative matters."

RG28-006. Department of Organization and Field Services. Local Central Body Charter Records, 1889-1987.
These charter records document the affiliation of local central bodies in the United States and its territories with their parent federation (AFL, CIO, AFL-CIO). Documents reflect the struggle of local central bodies to organize, define their identity and purpose within their communities, and secure and strengthen the bonds with their respective federations.

RG28-007. Organization and Field Services Department. AFL Federal Local Union (FLU), CIO Local Industrial Union (LIU), and AFL-CIO Directly Affiliated Local Union (DALU) Charter Records, 1901-1981.
This collection consists primarily of charter records of AFL FLUs, CIO LIUs, and AFL-CIO DALUs (both newly created DALUs under the AFL-CIO and DALUs converted from FLUs and LIUs when the AFL and CIO merged).

This collection consists of constitutions and bylaws of AFL-CIO local central bodies in the United States, as well as accompanying correspondence.
